The Education edition of VectorWorks 2008 is available for schools, colleges and universities at specially reduced prices. This version is cross platform - able to be installed on both Macintosh and Windows computers - and is supplied with hard copy manuals and software DVDs.

The Education edition is VectorWorks Designer with RenderWorks and contains all the tools and commands from Architect, Landmark, Machine Design and Spotlight. This means it can fulfill a broad range of curriculum requirements.

Files created with the Education version will have a watermark in the border at the top and bottom of the drawing. This watermark will not appear on prints created from the school or university network version, but is will appear if the drawing is printed from the student version.

The Education version comes with a network USB dongle (a small hardware protection device) which must be connected to a server or admin machine that is on the same network, but not being used to run VectorWorks.

Network dongles come in three sizes (max 10 seats, max 50 seats, max 250 seats), with different prices. When ordering the dongle, consideration should be given to the number of licenses needed now and in the future. Dongles can be reused for future versions and so they only need to be purchased once.

With a network dongle, you can install VectorWorks on any number of computers on the network (sub nets are OK too), but the dongle will only let the quantity of licenses you have purchased run at one time. More information on network dongle can be found here.

There are no set purchasing quantities (such as a 30 pack). You just order the quantity of licenses you need and the network dongle.

Single teacher copies are also available to teachers or lecturers working at institutions that have VectorWorks installed. If these are in addition to a network license, the cost for each is the additional license price plus $50 for an individual dongle.
